Tour of Talent: South Florida's Top 10 Cornerbacks (Class of 2020)

By Jerry Williamson

While college football programs are puzzling their recruiting boards together, looking for the next highly sought after cornerback from the state of Florida. Rising Stars help accelerates the process. Did you know? Cornerbacks Trayvon Mullen (Clemson), Trajan Bandy (UM), Stanford Samuels (FSU), Dontye Carriere-Williams (Wisconsin), Cornelius Floyd (Arkansas), and University of Florida's cornerbacks C.J. McWilliams and Christopher Henderson -- are all prospects that I bought to light, before the media coverage, stars and offers. The prospects listed below, have earned their strips right out the gate, after one year removed from youth football. The methodology for the list consisted of varsity film and the off-season circuit. The list will shuffle over the next three-years of course, as players will find their niche and finally, have their number call as a varsity starter. But, all these guys will be FBS (football bowl  subdivision) talent, unless character or academics get in the way. South Florida's Top 10 Cornerbacks in no particular order:

Marcus Fleming - Miami High

After playing sparingly on varsity as a freshman at Coral Gables HS -- Fleming earned the top cornerback honors at several off-season circuits. He stands 5-foot-9, 150-pounds and has earned the early title based on all-star outings as the face of South Florida at cornerback. He has certainly, been active this off-season and faced notable competition throughout South Florida and started for the No. 1 15U 7-on-7 football team in the SE Region, Ngtmre.

Fleming picked up his first offer from Florida Atlantic University via Kevin Smith and was selected to Rising Stars All-Freshmen Team and Rising Stars 7-on-7 All-Freshman Team

Anton Hall, Jr. - Gulliver Prep

Hall, Jr. experienced the accelerated course of high school, as he earned the starting job as the Raiders No. 1 cornerback, and challenged opposing teams go-to wide receiver. Hall, Jr. is fearless standing at 5-foot-9, 178-pounds, but has that mindset of a University of Miami (FL) freshman CB Trajan Bandy, who appears small but you tell him that.

Hall, Jr. picked up two verbal offers this past spring from FAU (Kevin Smith) & Kentucky (Lamar Thomas). Last year as an 8th grader, he received his first verbal offer from Bowling Green. Hall, Jr. earned all-county honorable mention.

Louis Rolle - Deerfield Beach

Rolle (5-10, 160) started the past season on varsity at South Plantation before transferring to Deerfield Beach HS. As a freshman, Rolle was responsible for 27 tackles, 19 deflections and 1 interception.

The Rising Stars All-South Florida Freshmen Team selection -- didn't allow over 15 receptions on the season (based on film) and allowed three catches beyond 10 yards.

Dartrell Rolle - Champagnat Catholic

Rolle, is the next star in-line for the Lions' extremely talented 2020 recruiting class. He turned heads this spring earned the 15U cornerback MVP at Florida Fire tryouts. In his first varsity start vs. Somerset Academy. Rolle, blocked a field goal, intercepted a pass and delivered multiple big-hits.

Rolle was targeted twice this past, and didn't allow a reception. He's a physical corner that loves to be around the ball.

Davonte Brown - Piper

Piper High School defensive coordinator must love the fact, he'll have two legit cornerbacks with Jalen Thomas (6-0, 160) and Davonte Brown (6-1, 165) the three years. The duo has the qualities, you can't coach -- meaning size, athleticism and a ton of varsity action from the previous season.

Jalen Thomas - Piper (No picture)

Larrion Moss - Booker T. Washington

The 5-foot-11, 155-pound ATHLETE, saw limited time on varsity at running back for the Tornadoes, but his performance this off-season in the secondary, is where I believe he'll end up at all said and done.

Moss and fellow classmate Marcus Fleming (Miami High) captured four tournament titles defeating notable 15U teams Florida Fire and South Florida Express.

Marcel Williams - Carol City

The Chiefs' defending class 6A state champion -- earned both a ring and was selected to Rising Stars All-South Florida Freshmen Team

Williams (5-9, 160) started for Strong Arm 7v7 Football team and made a number of notable plays on varsity. He saw time on offense, defense and special teams.

Kameron Terry - Southwest Miami

The Eagles' rising sophomore worked hard for every praise he reveived this off-season. Terry standing 5-foot-8.5, 150-pounds, caught the attention of SEC schools at FIU's football camp, including the hometown Panthers.

Terry started varsity this off-season for Struggle Nation 7v7 Football team, which took many notable teams to the wire. He recorded four interceptions and stood out at the recent padded football camp.

Ben Owunzo - Chaminade-Madonna

After starting varsity as an 8th grader, Owunzo (6-1, 165) earned playing time for a talented Charges W. Flanagan secondary. His size will catch a number of college coaches attention by the end of the season.

Owunzo made plays on special teams and defense the past season. This off-season the tall and rangy cornerback transferred to Chaminado-Mondonna and earned a spot in South Florida Express 15U football team.
