South Florida's returning leader in rushing yards -- has transferred from (7A Classification) Miami Sunset to (2A classification) Champagnat Catholic this off-season -- making him the big fish in a small pond statistically speaking. As a junior -- carrying the load at Miami Sunset -- he helped resurrected a (2-8) football program into a playoff contender last fall, ending the season at (10-2).
What did Champagnat Catholic football program add this fall with the 5-foot-10. 175-pound running back named Javier Zuniga? The lions added the #1 overall rusher in South Florida -- for the 8A-6A classification (Highest). Javier, rushed for (1,350) yards within eleven games, which is an eye-popping (122) yards per game average.
He also, turned-in two individual games -- rushing for over (200) yards. He also, contributes in the passing game. Tallying 8 - catches for 209 - receiving yards and 3 - TDs. Javier, accomplishments didn't go unnoticed. His 16 all-purpose touchdowns and 1,559 yards from scrimmage earn him 1st team All-Dade County along with UCF signee Jawon Hamilton and Maxpreps freshman All-American Nayquan Wright.
Champagnat Catholic was described as a small pond, but their football roster currently has (9) student-athletes with verbal offers from the likes of Alabama, UGA etc. Javier is without question a division one prospect. He has proved in the highest classification in Miami-Dade County he can perform versus the best of the best, making 1st Team and he understands commitment and overcoming hardships -- resurrecting a football program.
