Son of Cyclones Legend making an EARLY IMPACT: Christopher Columbus 19' RB/ATH Darren Davis Jr.
Christopher Columbus is the home to one of the most notable names in the Sunshine State and perhaps the country. Does the names: Eddie Davis, Troy Davis, Darren Davis and Jason Davis ring a bell? Here's a family that took both high school and college football by storm during the late 80's and 90's. The "Davis brothers" helped Miami Southridge -- captured several state championships and broke multiple D1-FBS college football rushing records, and was also a Heisman Trophy finalist.
Well, there's yet another Davis' in-line and he just doesn't carry the last name -- he's extremely talented and productive. Christopher Columbus (Miami, FL) Class of 2019 RB/Athlete Darren Davis Jr. -- is taking care of business both on-and-off the field. The 5-foot-8, 165-pound athlete -- two seasons ago played a large role helping his Pop Warner football team, Palmetto Raiders midgets -- to the Division One Pop Warner National Championship on ESPN and this past fall, engineered his varsity football team to a district title and one game short of the 8A state title game.
The speedy and exciting Davis Jr. -- lined-up everywhere on offense and special teams for the explores. On offense -- splitting carries with 3star Athlete C.J. Henderson. Davis Jr. still managed to finished Top 35 in South Florida in rushing yards (715) with an impressive 7.6 yards per touch average. He was responsible for (8) rushing touchdowns (Top 15) in South Florida and pulled in (194) yards receiving. Davis Jr. accumulated over 1,100 all-purpose yards and (8) touchdowns for his varsity team right out of Pop Warner football.
Here's a note -- last fall there was several games where he only participated in the first half. One of those games was vs. Miami High where he recorded over (100) all-purpose yards and (2) touchdowns. Davis Jr. was also named to the prestigious Rising Stars All-South Florida Freshman Team. Inside of the classroom he sports a 3.0 weighted GPA. Davis Jr. recently earned a spot on the War Zone 7on7 football team -- which was put together of South Florida's best-of-the-best high school football student-athletes and the talented freshman made the team and made an impact in Louisiana, winning the Pylon Championship.
Iowa State wasted no time extending a verbal offer to Davis Jr. -- who was offered as a 8th grader by his father running back coach Tony Alford. Pictured is Davis Jr. playing (Pop Warner) vs. Tamiami Colts midgets taking it the distance. Davis Jr. has been receiving heavy interest from the #2 college football team in the country, Clemson. The coaches see another C.J. Spiller-like running back when factoring in how well he can run, catch and return kicks and most importantly, make defenders miss. Davis Jr. is extremely talented.
He's going on his second year starting for nationally known Florida Fire 7v7 football team which is a challenge to do. He started right away as a 8th grader along side nationally ranked offensive athletes. He also sports a 3.0 weighted GPA and he's an actually a better person off the field -- which speaks volumes. He's a complete student-athlete.
