Sunshine State Next Gunslinger: Miami Killian 19' QB Cairiq Rackley
The cougars' first-year head coach Javi Valdes -- is known for his mash-mouth Delaware Wing-T offense over the years, but there's a young and extremely talented gunslinger, that's going to make the old boy coach, open up his run oriented offense this upcoming fall. The cougars class of 2019 gunslinger, Cairiq Rackley stands 6-foot-1, 170-pounds with a cannon for an arm.
The soon-to-be sophomore, is a two-sport star, starting for both his football team (Quarterback) and baseball team (Pitcher - middle reliever & closer). Speaking of baseball, Rackley can throw a baseball close to 80 miles per hour and was responsible for 32 strickouts within 41 endings. After observing Rackley's film, I quickly noticed he possesses four quarterback traits: toughness, touch, decision-making and he's a winner. Rackley defeated Miami Palmetto, Coral Reef, Varela, South Dade and Homestead.
Since we're talking about winning. Rackley, also captured the Pop Warner Division 2 National Championship (Palmetto Bay Broncos) and took full advantage of his six starts on varsity last fall, managing to go (5-1) and finished #20 overall in South Florida (Broward & Dade) in the highest classifications (6A-8A) in passing. Remember, I mentioned the young man having touch?
Rackley finished #1 in South Florida amongst all underclassmen quarterbacks in attempt-and-completion ratio. Inside of the classroom. He's taking control of the situation, just like he does on the gridiron. He's an advanced placement (AP) and honor roll student. Not to mention, he sports an eye-popping 3.6 weighted GPA.
The freshman coming out party was week 7 vs. the undefeated South Dade Buccaneers, a team that was once considered state bound. Rackley threw 3 touchdowns for 263 yards and was accurate, with 17 completions and 27 attempts.
His bloodline is extremely talented. All three played for the Sunshine State' big three. His father, Charles Rackley (University of Florida ) and uncle, Trent Jones (University of Miami) both played running back and his uncle, Corey Collier (Florida State University) played linebacker. Rackley accumulated over 900 all-purpose yards and 8 touchdowns during his short period of time starting on varsity.
This past spring, he threw 5 touchdowns (zero interceptions) and rushed for one touchdown. He's projected to grow 6-foot-4 according to his doctor. Keep an eye on the cougars rising star, college football coaches as he continues to grow vertically (height) and statically.
