So. Florida's Impact Freshman: South Miami (FL) WR Gerand Turner
South Miami, FLA. -- The Cobras' football program made a splash for the 2016 season -- adding arguably the "biggest surprise" amongst South Florida's top-tier incoming freshman with (Miami Pop Warner) Coconut Groove Cavaliers Varsity WR Gerand Turner.
The school hasn't brought an incoming freshman of this caliber since instant-impact freshman A.J. Leggett (Marshall) and Johnnie Hankins (Fort Scott Community College).
Measurable & Athleticism
According to FlU's Ron Turner Football Camp Notes -- Turner check in at 6-feet, 175 pounds and posted a hand-timed 4.64 in the 40 yard dash.
Turner is the type of playmaker, that's capable of turning a first down into a touchdown with a nice blend of speed and power. This past spring, Turner, placed second in every 100m event - not bad considering there's a total of eight sprinters per heat. Inside of the weight room, he without question can bench press 195lbs, dead lift 250lbs. and squat 315lbs. If my math is correct, that's a total of 750lbs. He also started at point guard and center on the basketball court.
Coconut Groove Cavaliers Varsity
The hidden gem -- turned heads after scoring two receiving touchdowns of 40 plus yards versus (Miami Booker T. Washington youth football feeder) the Overtown Tornadoes. Generation Nexxt scouting member Darrien T. Green was present and contacted me instantly -- regarding the emerging star -- after I did the same with former Miami Youth Hurricanes Varsity and now, Miami Booker T. Washington sophomore RB Marcus Barthell, who holds multiple D1-FBS offers as of today.
Turner recorded over 1,000 all-purpose yards and scored multiple touchdowns on offense, and special teams. He also led his team in tackles at defensive end and registered several sacks. After making the FBU National Tournament -- for the Miami-Dade All-Stars. Turner continued with great news after finding out -- he was named to the Generation Nexxt's All-South Florida 1st Team. The same prestigious list -- Miami Southridge 4-Star WR Mark Pope was named to as eight-grader, before entering high school.

The freshman -- has scored in every live scrimmage this past few weeks, and has worked hard to become the starter for the season opener and listen to this, he's already recognized as the Cobras' go-to wide receiver. University of Miami and FAMU are already showing early interest, making the freshman aware, that he's on their watch list, this upcoming season.
Did you know? University of Miami defensive back Robert Knowles is the uncle of South Miami freshman WR Gerand Turner.
The Cobras' varsity football roster -- added perhaps the most talented incoming wide receiver core with the addition of Gerand Turner and Umir Ervan (Generation Nexxt's All-South Florida 2nd Team selection)

The Cobras' Defensive Coordinator Donald Jackson -- shared his thoughts about Gerand Turner
"He's a very humble young man who's put in both sweat and tears in the weight and on the field. He's a quick learner and dissects complex information without a problem. Gerand is a young man who has a bright future ahead of himself and will be a force for years to come in the Cobra offense."
South Miami Head Coach Rick Munne -- shared his thoughts about Gerand Turner
I'm really excited that Gerand chose to be a part of our programs rebuilding process. He's a young, who's physically gifted, and most importantly, intelligent student-athlete who saw the potential in our program. He's going to play a huge role in our future success. Gerand is a young leader and many of his fellow freshmen look up to him. He's got a bright future ahead of himself.
Turner goals for his high school career is to help his team win ball games and continue to make the honor roll and would like to be named to someone All-American Bowl -- to cap off his prep career.
