Advance Prep Academy Lands JUCO All-American RB Lashone Garnett
Orlando, FLA. -- In case you didn't know, there's a college prep football program located in Orlando, FL named Advance Preparatory Academy (APA) and their coursework is associated with Polk State College as well as offering three meals per day and housing.
The first-year football program picked up a surprise commitment for their 2016 recruiting class by landing a household name from the junior college ranks RB Lashone Garnett (5-9, 205, 4.49) approximately 2,995 miles away, which is equivalent to a 45-hour drive from Orlando, Florida to Weed, California.
At College of the Siskiyous, Garnett made his mark immediately vs. #1 ranked defense, San Mateo and the rest is history. Garnett was named a Junior College All-American and added to his trophy case, accepting awards such as Northern California Conference Player of the Year and 1st Team All-League.
Garnett, finished as the #5 overall rusher in junior college for both the National Junior College Atlantic Association (NJCAA) and California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) and the #1 rusher in the highest classification in CCCAA.
The only thing that would slow down CCCAA highest classification leading rusher was his FAFSA paperwork -- which hindered his graduation and college football offers, and not being a California resident didn't help financially as he was ruled ineligible for the BOG fee waiver. Garden City Community College reached out to the 2015 Junior College All-American and offered a full scholarship.
The decision was a no brainer for Garnett and his family, considering full tuition, room and board and most important -- taking advantage of their multiple eight and sixteen week mini-terms, which will place him right back on track regarding his college credits and becoming a mid-year quailifer (December of 2016).
College football programs have show interest, but appeared to be playing the wait-and-see game regarding his college credits and for the others crossing his fingers that he becomes a mid-year graduate.
Lashone received some priceless news this past summer as family member Jerry Williamson (Florida International University - Sports Management graduate) informed him about taking full advantage of an overlooked rule, which allows junior college football players who haven't used their redshirt, to be able to transfer from the junior college ranks down to prep and their eligibility clock will stop despite playing in ten games.
Garnett now seating on 51 college credits as his sophomore season approached as Garden City C.C. made another no brainer decision by departing from Kansas back to Florida. Why?
Garnett is now scheduled to earn his A.A. degree as a mid-year qualifier (December of 2016) and instead of playing as a sophomore this fall for Garden City C.C. -- listen to this, Garnett will play ten games this fall for Advance Prep Academy and his eligibility clock will stop as his redshirt will freeze his collegiate eligibility clock and hs will now have three years of eligibility at the next level instead of two years if he opted to remain at Garden City C.C.
Advance Prep Academy season opener vs. Pikesville College was epic, as Redshirt Freshman running back Lashone Garnett would score the game-winning touchdown in overtime, 16-13.
Garnett sports a 3.0 weighted GPA and will graduate with his A.A. Degree in Criminal Justice come December of 2016. The college programs that are showing interest consist of Tennessee, Mississippi State, Missouri, North Dakota and Florida Tech.
