Emerging Star: Southwest Miami 19' ATH Cornelius Nunn Jr. (5-11, 172)


The Eagles' defense is anchored by versatile rising sophomore ATHLETE Cornelius Nunn Jr., who's capable of playing wide receiver, cornerback, defensive back as well as kick and punt returner.

Cornelius is the nephew of FSU defensive lineman Desmond Hollin, and was the 6th fastest player out of 158 entries at the Nike Combine as an eighth-grader. He recently, clocked a hand-timed 4.49 40-Yard Dash.

After missing three games of the season, the last five games is certainly noteworthy. Cornelius has recorded 35 tackles, 3 force fumbles, 3 pass break ups and 80 returns yards on 2 attempts well as, not allowing a single reception this season, while lining-up at strong safety and delivering monster a number of monster hits, resulting in three forced fumbles vs. Coral Reef, Belen Jesuit and Ferguson.

Cornelius ranks top 5 in both tackles and force fumbles within district play. Speaking of district play, week 7 vs. cross-town rival, Belen Jesuit, Cornelius stopped the Wolverines twice on 4th down and was responsible for 17 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 2 hurries and 1 force fumble. Cornelius, is also his team's hardest-hitter and sports a 2.7 core GPA.

The Eagles' talented sophomore, Cornelius, was named to Rising Stars All-Freshman team the past season after mind-blowing performances during fall,

During the off-season, Cornelius was named both Sam Madison and War Zone 7-on-7 Tournament overall Most Valuable Player (MVP). Cornelius is currently on the University of Miami radar according to Canesinsight.com and the University of Florida is also showing interest.
