Keys Gate "Ball-hawking" 19' SS/OLB Joe Smith
Homestead, FLA. -- The Knights' football roster is filled with hidden talent, and quality prospects that ranges from eighth-grade future phenom starting quarterback Torey "Scooter" Morrison, to upperclassmen work-horse senior running back Jahbrille Campbell.
The Knights' rising sophomore linebacker Joe Smith could become the program's second first-team selection since 2-star wide receiver Raymond Gage.
Joe's performance at outside linebacker this fall, made me think about the 2002 season of Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Derrick Brooks, who scored multiple touchdowns and was named NFL's Defensive Player of the Year.
Joe is making a strong push for first-team All-State and All-County honors for the 2016 season. Joe has returned three interceptions for touchdowns this season -- tallying 86 yards, lining up at five positions consisting of free safety, strong safety and all three linebacker positions. At 6-foot-1, 190-pounds, he's clearly a ball hawk where ever he lines-up on defense with six interceptions on the season.
Joe has caused three force fumbles and accumulated five sacks on the season as well as hauling in six interceptions. He reports an offer from Illinois and should add on to his offer sheet, sporting a 3.2 core GPA and will take the ACT shortly. I can see three stars at worst, with this young man, when you factor, measurables, film and academics. College football coaches from across the nation, he's South Florida's next super star.
