Class of 2022 - Southwest Miami-Dade Emerging STARS
This week, Rising Stars decided to give our audience a sneak peek into the future and most importantly, give credit where it's due, spotlighting four particular emerging youth football student-athletes, located South of Flagler, (where coverage is limited) and let the world know -- who they are, that's a part of the class of 2022.
Suniland Sundevils 12U athlete Matthew Boston (Former League Player of the Year) is perhaps, the more well-known student-athlete located in the Southwest region for the class of 2022, but the list just expanded, with emerging stars such as Michael Jackson (Richmond Giants), Bobby Bussey-Golden (South Kendall Seahawks), Jai-Ayviauynn Celestine (Goulds Rams) and Anton Coney (Goulds Rams).
Academic Chart
Platinum| 3.5 - 4.0
Gold| 2.9 - 3.4
Silver| 2.0 - 2.8
Team - Richmond Giants, Jr. Varsity
Name - Michael Jackson
Position - ATH (LB, DL, DB)
Height - 5'8"
Weight - 135lbs
Academics - Platinum
TOP RIGHT PICTURED - Last January, Michael, earned a starting spot for Miami Dolphins' Dade 12U All-Stars, as a sixth-grader, when he tactically was supposed to play for the 11U All-Stars. That tells you a mouth full regarding his athleticism and confidence. Furthermore, I observed him catch three interceptions vs. cross-town rival, Goulds Rams, and two were for pick six. He'll play varsity day one.
Team - Goulds Rams, Jr. Varsity
Name - Anton Coney
Position - QB
Height - 5'5"
Weight - 120lbs
Academics - Platinum
BOTTOM LEFT PICTURED - Anton's game favors former Liberty City Warriors' QB Chatarius Atwell. He throws exceptionally well on the run and extends plays with his feet, while impressively going through his progression scanning the field. He's responsible for a total of 18 touchdowns (13 passing and 5 rushing) and over 1,000 all-purpose yards, including 2 interceptions at defensive back. Anton is going to make someone All-Star team, mark my word and he's also an AP honor roll student-athlete.
Team - South Kendall 12U
Name - Bobby Bussey-Golden
Position - ATH (Wildcat-QB, WR, DB, P, PK, Returner)
Height - 5'7"
Weight - 130lbs
Academics - Silver
BOTTOM RIGHT PICTURED - I'm going to sound like a broken record, but he's "raw" talent with major upside. Athleticism, he's usually the best all-around athlete on the field. I observed this kid score at five different positions, and out-jumped three defenders during overtime, catching the game-winning touchdown.
Bobby has accumulated 20 total TDs this season (14 rushing, 4 receiving, 2 pick six) and two interceptions. A great WR and DB coach and he's going to be scary good.
Team - Goulds Rams Jr. Varsity
Name - Jai-Ayviauynn Celestine
Position - ATH (RB, LB, Returner)
Height - 5'8"
Weight - 140lbs
Academics - Silver
TOP LEFT PICTURED - Before the hype machine begun, I remember watching this young man vs. Palmetto Bay Broncos in a scrimmage before the start of the season and the Broncos coach stated, Jai-Ayviauynn Celestine was the best player on the field afterwards. This season, Jai-Ayviauynn has scored at RB (10), WR (2) and Returner (1). At linebacker, he caused (5) fumbles and averaged seven tackles per game. He projects as a linebacker or strong safety. There's a strong possibility, he'll forgo youth football and play high school as an eighth-grader.
