Back-to-Back Champs: Palmetto QB Lopez throws winning TD pass to McDowell with :06 left
The Sean Taylor Classic D1 Mitey-Mite Division -- featured crosstown Rivals, the Palmetto Raiders versus the Gwen Cherry Bulls. Both prospective teams, met for the third consecutive time to decide who will be crown the Sean Taylor Classic champs. The Raiders have won the last two meetings, outscoring the Bulls (18-0) and on Saturday afternoon at Tropical Park, after a week long lobbying on social media from fans and coaches, the stage was set for the most anticipated game of the day.
The bulls defense, featuring linebacker Sean Smith and defensive lineman Antonio Branch Jr., Nicsaint Joesph Jr., and Moyse Durosier Jr. -- dominated the first half, as both the Raiders and Bulls offenses "literally" earned every single yard -- with three first downs a piece.

Palmetto Raiders Head coach Cecil Sapp and Offensive coordinator Jermaine Kelson -- would open up the playbook as Wide receiver Marquis Robinson of the Raiders, would spark the offense -- taking a jet for 12-yards up field, and breaking three tackles along the way, displaying pure determination, as a host of Bulls would finally gang tackle him. The Bulls speedy running back Tremaine Perriman 13-yard scamper, late in second quarter was their highlight of the first half.
Defensive coordinator Darrius Aikens and coaching staff Quinton Carter and Coemba Jones Sr., held the Bulls explosive and complex offense -- scoreless during the second half, led by well-respected offensive coordinator T. Y. Hilton (The father of Indianapolis Colts WR T.Y. Hilton).

Late in the third quarter, the bulls opportunity of possibly scoring was dropped, as the bulls spreaded the Raiders defense -- going empty (5 wide formation) causing a bust in the coverage. The Raiders free safety Darriel Harper (One interception) and cornerback Cameron Sapp (Targeted 5 times, no completions) would buckle down in the secondary, and force the bulls to run.
The bulls would then switch to power game with Sean Smith at running back and rotate quarterbacks J'Vari Flowers and Calvin Russell III. However, the Raiders dynamic duo at defensive tackle Joshua McDowell and Kentrell Davis were unblockable and outside linebackers Wilson Smith and Ronald Towns, saved several would-be touchdowns, stopping the bulls electrifying running back Tremaine Perriman.
Cameron Sapp 23-yard punt return and remarkable catch, which were back-to-back big plays, placed the Raiders offense at the Bulls 12-yard line with six seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.
Quarterback Jasen Lopez (2-for-2 on the drive) standing calm and collected, connected across the middle to slot receiver Joshua McDowell that made two defenders miss and raced into the end zone just as time expired.
Congratulations to the Palmetto Raiders Mitey-Mite football team on becoming Sean Taylor Classic back-to-back champions.
