2A State Bound: The Champagnat Catholic Are Very-Young and Talented


HIALEAH, Fla. -- History will be made on December 9th -- when Champagnat Catholic take the field vs. University Christian for the 2A title.

The Lions will become the first FHSAA football program in history, to advance to the finals with six varsity starters as freshman.

On the offensive side of the ball, freshmen wide receivers Mark Britt (6-0, 165) and Johnquai Lewis (6-0, 160) and offensive lineman Alann Louis (6-0, 290) and Jovens Janvier (6-0, 300) as well as workhorse running back Calvin Montgomery (5-10, 190).

Montgomery leads Miami-Dade County 2A-5A classification in rushing touchdowns with (10) and Johnquai Lewis ranks No. 5 in receiving yards with (455) and Britt ranks No. 16 with (313). Britt pulled in (3) receptions for (88) yards and (1) touchdown vs. Northside Christian to help the Lions advance to state finals.

Sophomore quarterback Kervin Desssources has thrown (18) touchdowns and running backs Daryn Jones and Arthur Roberts both ranks Top 15 in Miami-Dade County 2A-5A classification.

Juniors offensive tackle Jawuan Wilson (6-3, 260) anchored the offensive line as the leader. He's a full college qualifier and holds an offer from Temple. Wide Receivers Jahani Wright and 4-Star recruit Gregory Rousseau who stands 6-foot-6, combines for (12) touchdowns and also ranks Top 15 in Miami-Dade County 2A-5A classification in receiving yards.

Freshman defensive end Jesus Machado who holds over ten D1-FBS verbal offers, is responsible for over 10 sacks this fall.

The starting offense consist of (5) freshman, (1) sophomore and (5) juniors and on the defensive side of the ball -- (1) freshman, (1) sophomore, (4) juniors and (5) seniors. The Lions will be even stronger come next fall as the underclassmen continue to gain valuable experience.

The Lions upperclassmen roster is just as talented with nationally recognized junior athletes 4-Star recruit Gregory Rousseau, 3-Star LB Donovan Georges, DL Maxesien Michel as well as tackling machine LB Tyrik Robinson (Top 10 in tackles in Miami-Dade County).

The secondary is led by seniors De'vante Mitchell (Ohio commit), Sean Bouie (6-feet, 170), Brian Gooze (5-11, 180) and Jordan Coley (first-team All-State
