Eighth-grade Varsity Starter: Doral Academy (Fla.) 21' WR Khalil Brantley

DORAL -- Eighth-grade wide receiver Khalil Brantley of Doral Academy (Fla.) who's a day one varsity starter for 7A classification football program that went (8-3, 7-1) and made the playoffs for the first time in school history. Khalil stands 6-foot-2, 175-pounds that can effortlessly dunk a 10-foot basketball goal. He's physical and not just a nine route receiver.

The youngster, is responsible for a total of eight pancake blocks contributing to the Firebirds success on the ground with the No. 10 rusher in the county, senior running back Javier Zuniga. Khalil has the frame of a senior wide receiver (6-2, 175) as an eighth-grader with four years of growth remaining. While eighth-graders are playing weekends for Optimist Clubs -- the long and rangy wide receiver is playing on Friday nights starting on both varsity and junior varsity and scoring touchdowns.

He's responsible for eight touchdowns for the 2016 season. He led all freshman wide receivers in South Florida in total touchdowns, just to paint a clearer picture statistically speaking for an eighth-grader. The Firebirds rising star recently participated in his first of three youth football all-star events taking part in FBU 8th Grade National Championship Tournament for the Dade All-Stars. He was responsible for 77 yards on 4 receptions and 1 receiving touchdown.

The past two seasons, So. Florida has arguably the most 8th graders offered throughout the country ranging from state champions RB Nayquan Wright (Carol City) and WR Mark Pope (Miami Southridge) to the latest group -- RBs Andre Stringfield (Miami Southwest) and Don Chaney Jr. (Belen Jesuit Preparatory).

College football programs University of Miami, Kentucky and UGA have all expressed interest in the Firebirds future phenom. Don't be surprised if Khalil pulls in several Division one offers this off-season. Next fall, as a freshmen he'll return punts according to his coach.
