So. Florida's Emerging Star: Champagnat Catholic (FL) 19' LB Donald Georges
Champagnat Catholic 2A football program prepares for the 2017 season with a wealth of underclassmen talent (returning 17-out-of-22-starters), that has a chance to be a special group all said and done.
For instance, in the month of January, three freshman on the lions football roster (Johnquai Lewis, Mark Britt, Jesus Machado) picked up verbal scholarships from the Atlantic Coast Conference and eight started in the 2A state championship game against University Christian (Jacksonville, FL).
Well speaking of underclassmen talent and state championship football, the lions have a great similarity on their roster with starting sophomore linebacker Donald Georges who stands 5-foot-11, 205-pounds. Donald, the younger brother of University of Georgia commit Donovan Georges, shined on the big stage in the 2A state championship game. He (Donald) amassed 8 tackles for loss and caused 2 forced fumbles as a first year varsity starter.
The all-county selection and honor roll student-athlete, sports a 3.64 grade point average (highest football GPA) and plans to become the school's first dual-enrollment and informed me he'll pursue law come college, as his major of choice. Donald took over his brother jersey No. 2 in certain games this fall, and spectators including myself, thought he was his older brother Donovan Georges, until the lions coaches made me aware of the switch of numbers.
On the gridiron, the sophomore was responsible for 95 tackles, 4 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, 4 Pass break ups, 2 fumble recoveries and 1 interception for the 2016 season. Donald, is currently drawing interest from the University of Georgia, and informed me they'll personally visit him this off-season.
