The Next Wave: Southwest Miami-Dade County's Top 30 List (Class of 2023)

Legendary Head Coach Bear Bryant is credited with the quote," offense sells tickets, but defense wins championships". The criteria for the ranking consisted of several components: level of competition, consistency, All-Star selection and performances. Moreover, the student-athlete who plays up and was productive or at their age group will get the nod over an older/lighter student-athlete. Florida City Razorbacks defensive lineman Amen Mackey, two-time Miami Dolphins' Dade vs. Broward selection, is the cornerstone of the class. He's one particular kid I have scouted the past few years, and you'll "never" have to question his toughness nor production against notable competition. He's your front line soldier.

The sixth-grader, helped the Razorbacks Pee Wee team captured the Sean Taylor Classic (against older kids), and racked up four sacks, force fumble and countless tackles in the Miami Dolphins Dade vs. Broward All-Stars Game as well as causing 7 force fumbles and 13 sacks during the regular season. The No. 1 running back in the south hails from the Miami Extreme Youth Football League. South Kendall Seahawks 11U RB Levy Miller, a product from the Dick Conley Football League, is the unsung student-athlete of the class. He possesses size, speed, strength, vision and turned heads in the All-Star Game. Levy amassed 23 touchdowns last fall.

The Suniland Sundevils 12U football team, Miami Extreme Youth Football League jaggnuant, has a wealth of talent. Linebacker/defensive lineman Stanquan Clark is a beast. Stanquan, just like Amen, is another young man who plays against older competition and fits right in. He was responsible for 10 touchdowns (6 rush, 2 receiving, 3 pick six) and finished third on the team in tackles behind seventh-graders. Ahmere Foster of the Palmetto Raiders has a promising future. He can play wide receiver or anywhere in the secondary. Ahmere game is legit. He outright earned the top wide receiver at Generation Nexxt Skills Challenge and wasn't targeted often last fall.

Unless, you live under a rock, the names Bobby Washington and Sedrick Irvin jr., doesn't need an introduction. Sedrick Irvin Jr., all-star selection and FBU South MVP, versatility is impressive. He has sneaky skills at wide receiver (could be his future), and is best described as the Ironman of youth football. Bobby, has dominated since the day he suited up to play organized football. He is your "plug in" or "go get him guy", he's an all-around athlete. The class of 2023 has beef. Suniland Sundevils' offensive lineman P.J. Smith, who stands 5-foot-8, 280-pounds, is the top offensive lineman in the south, and the scary part is, he's still scratching the surface.
