Rising Stars All-South Florida Freshman Team Selection: University School (FL) 20' DL Jalen Reev
Ft. Lauderdale -- University School of Nova has seen their share of talented defensive stars over the years for instance, 2017 NFL DRAFT top 5 cornerback Quincy Wilson (Uni. of Florida) and 2nd team All-SEC upcoming redshirt senior linebacker Skai Moore (South Carolina's) just to name a few.
The University School of Nova Southeastern University (Ft. Lauderdale, FL), featured an extremely talented incoming freshman this past fall, who's an intriguing prospect as he continues to develop at his defensive line position named Jalen Reeves.
The sky is the limit for the promising freshman. His father (George Reeves) stands 6-foot-4 and wears a size 14 shoe. Only a freshman, Jalen Reeves (14-year-old) wears a size 13 shoe and as of today, stands 6-feet and 205-pounds, which is two inches taller and 25-pounds heavier from fall action and is expected to grow as tall as 6-foot-3 according to his growth-plate per his doctor.
As a freshman, Reeves started varsity for the Sharks, despite playing defensive tackle at 5-foot-10, 175-pounds, primarily at the 1 technique and snaps at defensive end. However, the undersized Reeves earned (Miami Herald) 3rd team All-Broward and (Sun Sentinel) honorable mention as his team sack leader with 8.
Reeves, at least 100-pounds lighter each game, challenging massive offensive lineman, believe or not, experienced double-teamed blocks often and dominated majority of the time. For example, his best statistical game came against district play Glades Central Raiders, sacking quarterback James Blackmon (FSU signee) twice and tacting on an including 4 tackles-for-loss (22 yards) and a quarterback pressure.
Reeves played every single position across the line and finished the season racking up 58 tackles, 8 sacks, 2 force fumbles, 6 QB pressures, 1 punt block and 1 fumble recovery.
The rising star, shines academically as well, sporting a 3.7 weighted GPA (Honor roll student) and is receiving early interest from Ivy league Dartmouth and Louisville amongst a few schools whom he spoke to that will be visiting Ft. Lauderdale this spring to evaluate the intriguing soon-to-be sophomore.
Reeves can bench press 210lbs and squats 310lbs. If you observe his hudl, he actually looks even stronger. His high motor and football IQ, makes him a threat, and someone offensive coordinators will gameplan for over the next few years. Once his growth spurt kicks in, so will the recruiting attention, but it's very smart to show interest early with a high school student-athlete come National Signing Day.
