Dynamic Underclassmen on Offense - WRs Johnquai Lewis & Marc Britt (Champagnat)
HIALEAH -- Champagnat Catholic's first-year offensive coordinator (3rd year overall) George Stubbs -- experienced both growing pains and made history, as his first-year starting sophomore quarterback Kervin Dessources and freshman wide receiver Johnquai Lewis, ended the 2016 season ranked Top 10 in Miami-Dade statically and offensively, averaged 21.5 points per game.
Champagnat Catholic, became the first program in history, to start six freshmen (five hold D1 verball offers) in a state championship finals. The Lions, a member of the 2A classification, which is the second lowest among eight classifications, ranks No. 1 in the state of Florida, with the most freshmen with verbal offers consisting of Jesus Machado, Johnquai Lewis, Mark Britt, Calvin Montgomery and Jovens Janvier.
In my recent fact-finding, Champagnat Catholic freshmen wide receiver duo Johnquai Lewis (6'0", 160) and Marc Britt (6'1", 180), holds a strong argument as the summit of South Florida's class of 2020 at the wide receiver position, and possibly the sunshine state (Florida).
Why? Considering their size, athleticism, film, big-game performances, D1 verbal offers and statistics -- as of today, is my thesis, why they're the front-runner -- with three years of eligibility remaining, in their graduating class. Five division one college football programs, have pay a visit to Hialeah, FL this off-season, and extended verbal offers to the duo consisting of: Syracuse, Uni. of Central Florida, Bowling Green, Wake Forest and Florida Atlantic Uni. Considering, both playmakers are a year removed from middle school technically, they shined on the biggest stage, as both scored in the 2A finals. Britt would haul in a 18-yard score (called back), and Lewis woud tact on an addition six points, from 13-yards out (finished with 43- receiving yards) displayed excellent route running ability and hands.
The 6-feet, 160-pound freshman wide receiver Johnquai Lewis (Pictured above) -- possesses speed, athletic ability and "knowledge of the game". Lewis, has started varsity, since the spring of the seventh-grade season, where he scored twice for roughly 100 receiving yards.
The soon-to-be sophomore, finished his freshman season ranked top 10 in Dade County in receiving yards and led the Lions' statistically, for Champagnat Catholic. He's the next highly sought after recruit.
Britt, is a dynamic and physically gifted athlete -- passing the eye-ball test. Moreover, he displayed the athleticism to play a number of positions at the next level, which enhances his college recruiting. Britt, delivered for the Lions -- several times this past season, but most notably, against undefeated Northside Christian, in the state semifinal. The first score, and biggest play of the night -- would come from the hands of Britt, as he displayed eye-popping vertical ability (Pictured above) for a 30-yard touchdown. He accumulated 88 all-purpose yards and one score, which fueled his team to the state championship.
Britt's game took off mid-way through the season, piling up just under 500 all-purpose yards and several touchdowns. Based on film, both wide receivers are very good run blockers and team players.
Champagnat Catholic - Offensive Coordinator - George Stubbs (Interview)
"Jerry, first off, lets just forget about football for a minute. These are just some great character young men. Willing to do anything to help there brothers success on-and-off the field. Okay back to football -- this freshmen duo is one of the best duos in florida period, no matter what classification.
They can do it all at receiver -- deep, intermediate, short and bubble screens routes. Johnquai Lewis, is one of the smoothest route runners, you want to see. You never know what he is running. He comes to practice with his hard hat everyday, willing to get better.
Marc Britt, man what can I say about my nephew, just put it in his zip code or a neighborhood zip code (meaning area) and he will go get it. His hands and jumping ability is off the charts. No prima donnas here", said George Stubbs.<br> The Lions class of 2020, has two more names that will become division one prospects in due time, in my opinion. Starting freshman center Alann Louis (6-2, 290) and cornerback Dartrell Rolle (5-9, 150), who (started one game) which resulted in a blocked kick and interception the past season. He's also labeled as my Rising Star.
