Talent Pool: Champagnat Catholic - Tyrik Robinson (Blue-Collar Athlete)
By Jerry Williamson
Talent Pool - describes an underrated prep student-athlete, who's a college qualifier and is D1 or D1AA prospect with accolades.
Class of 2018: Senior athlete (SS, LB, DL) Tyrik Robinson of Champagnat Catholic, has done everything you can ask for, from a student-athlete standpoint. He's a leader, team player, versatile, productive and most importantly, is just as impressive academically, sporting a 3.4 weighted GPA and 1090 SAT (460 writing/630 math). Ivy league schools: Brown, Princeton and Harvard -- have all sent mail. The four-year letterman -- has started varsity (at linebacker) since the 9th grade at Miami Carol City Senior High School, playing in the tough district 6A-16, which is described as the SEC of high school football in South football.
"He plays the game like it's suppose to be played. Playing to the whistle", said Champagnat Catholic Head Coach Dennis Marroquin.
Robinson has earned All-State and All-Dade honors the past two seasons, most recently being named first-team All-Dade County after leading the 2A state runner up in tackles with 120. After starting at defensive line and linebacker the past three seasons, racking up 40 sacks and 25 force fumbles -- converted to strong safety this spring and received his first scholarship offer by division 2 Valdosta State. The lions hosted both (8A) Miami High and (4A) Keys Gate Charter in their spring jamboree, which featured a number of top prospects with division one offers including over ten FBS coaches in attendance.
Robinson and the lions defense, didn't allow a single touchdown and caused havoc. Robinson recorded two sacks, two tackles for loss and ten tackles, as he was used sparingly. According to Robinson, there's three division one schools showing interest at the moment, which consist of FAU, Bowling Green and Stetson. When you watch film, the first thing that stands out is his dominance. He plays as if he's the biggest guy within the trenches.
His motor runs continuously, for four quarters and his closing speed stands out. He's a jack of all trades, that can play at the next level in the secondary.
Jerry's Flm Evaluation and Input
Robinson is just too dominate of an athlete to keep in the secondary at the high school level, without using his knack for finding the ball carrier or quarterback within the trenches.
He runs in the neighborhood of a 4.6 speed in the 40-yard dash, but his football speed and reaction, is a little faster on tape. He's surrounded by nationally recognized prospects (all within the trenches) who has pledged to FSU, UGA and UM -- and he's the leader in tackles returning.
