Rising Stars: South Florida's Top Freshmen Performers (Week 1)
Miami Central freshman RB Amari Daniels (Pictured above)
By Jerry Williamson
Week 1 of High School football is officially in the books. What we have learned this past weekend -- is Miami Central will continue as running back university. Freshman Amari Daniels torched the Lions' defense, earning him Rising Stars Player of the Week. Daniels, who holds three D1 FBS verbal offers, is the next superstar for the Rockets.
Miami Booker T. Washington starting center freshman Henry Williams, who started the past season for Overtown Tornadoes (Unlimited), has a bright future. Trust me, it's not an easy task to start for the Tornadoes, and be held responsible for protecting the past season Player of the Year winner junior quarterback Daniel Richardson.
Everglades Prep RB/LB Sirr Daye, who ran for six touchdowns on varsity the past season, ran continues to prove why I have been highly on him since seventh-grade, dating back to playing for the South Dade Bulldogs. Daye ran wild vs. Knights for 140 yards and 2-TD's. He's arguably the top unknown small-school (underclassmen) talent in South Florida.
Last fall, Miami-Dade County honorable mention and second-year varsity starter, QB Torey "Scooter" Morrison, just knows how to win. Despite the horrible weather, Morrison threw for his (13) varsity passing touchdown this past weekend defeating Coral Gables HS.
Another second-year varsity starter is freshman CB Timothy Burns, Jr. of Doral Academy. Burns, Jr. continues to prove he's not your typical freshman. He didn't allow a reception vs. Champagnat Catholic and blocked two kicks the prior week vs. Monsignor Pace. Burns, Jr. Is the top cornerback in South Florida take heave.
Miami Palmetto CB/SS Corey Collier, Jr., who stands 6-foot, 165-pounds caught one interception (last week) and tallied four tackles. He's the son of Miami Palmetto former highly sought after recruit, linebacker Corey Collier who signed to FSU out of High School.
