Week 2: South Florida's Impact Freshmen of the Week - Viattatio & Morrison Scores 5 TD's
By Jerry Williamson After a stellar week 1 performance by Miami Central's freshman RB Amari Daniels, who rushed for 102-yards and 2-rush TD's vs. Chaminado-Mondonna, the conclusion for South Florida's Player of the Week was an easy task. Daniels still managed to record over 100 all-purpose yards vs. Miami Booker T. Washington this past week. But, freshman quarterbacks Torey "Scooter" Morrison and Nick Viattatio topped the future high school All-American week 2 with eye-catching statistics. South Dade freshman quarterback Torey "Scooter" Morrison continues to ablaze defenses. Scooter accounted for 5 touchdowns (4 passing, 1 rushing) just in the first half. The 5-foot-9, 160-pound dual-threat didn't play the second half, as offensive coordinator Herman Reaves decided to take his foot off the gas with the future phenom. Scooter was well on his way for possibly 8-touchdowns and over 500 total yards. Here's a freshman that will become a candidate for first-team all-county. Scooter now has 16 career touchdowns. Freshman quarterback Nick Vattiato of University School of NSU, gave the sharks fan base a glimpse of the future, as he engineered his first varsity comeback victory. After a 14-point deficit, the calm and collected signal caller scored 35 unanswered points vs. Archbishop McCarthy. Viattatio threw 5 touchdown passes and went 13-for-19 for 278 yards. Viattatio now has 6 career touchdown passes. Everglades Prep chisel freshman RB/LB Sirr Daye surpassed the 100 yard mark for the second consecutive week. Daye ran for 106 yards (6 yard touchdown reception) including 4 tackles and 1 force fumble at linebacker. Daye, a 5-foot-10, 210-pound, is the small-school version of Ernie Sims (North Florida Christian) out of high school. Doral Academy Charter (future high school All-American) freshman CB/ATH Timothy Burns, Jr. has challenged wide receivers with instate verbal offers from UM, UF, FSU, FIU, and FAU dating back to spring football and has allowed his first reception this past week within 8 games. Burns, Jr. recorded his first varsity interception after being targeted four times and delivered a big hit. While quarterback Nick Viattatio (University School of NSU) torched Archbishop McCarthy defense, another offensive freshman played a key role impacting his performance. Starting offensive tackle Marcus Tate (6'5", 260) was responsible for one pancake and didn't allow a quarterback sack. Tate, a two-sport star, was offered by Bowling Green as an eighth grader. Miami Palmetto CB/DB Cornelius Collier II (6-0, 165), a product of FSU graduate linebacker Corey Collier, is making his father proud. This past spring, Collier II, earned Florida Fire 7v7 tryouts Defensive MVP (per Rising Stars). This fall, he not only starts on defense at cornerback, but has recorded 2 interceptions (Krop & Naples) within three games.
