South Florida's Sack Leader - Soph. DE Jalen Reeves of University School of NSU
By Jerry Williamson
While college football recruiting coordinators are well aware of University School of NSU nationally recognized recruits, such as running back Kenny McIntosh and defensive backs Tyler Scott, and Josh Sanguinetti. The sharks recruiting database has additional hidden talent, that will surface nationwide such as Marcus Tate (OT), Nick Viattatio (QB), Cody Smothers (LB), and Michael Hurt (RB). But, the next superstar in-line is versatile sophomore Jalen Reeves, a 6-foot-1, 210-pound, who has contributed at four positions (DE, DT, LB, FB) and has his name at the top of the charts in South Florida, entering week 3.
Reeves, a 3rd team all-county selection as a freshman, was responsible for 58 total tackles, 8 sacks, 15 TFL, 2 FF, 1 FR, and 1 Punt Block. Reeves has matched his freshman high (8 sacks) just in two games. Reeves leads the Miami Metropolitan area (Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach) in quarterback sacks with 8. The emerging star also holds an early verbal scholarship by Bowling Green, and is on track to reach 16-to-20 quarterback sacks by the end of the season. Prior to Reeves 8 sacks this fall. The high school version of Corey Moore of Virginia Tech's (College Football All-American) in my opinion, has out-right dominated this spring and fall, demanding double-teamed blocks, as if he a zero technique and weighted 300-pounds. He also ranks No. 5 in South Florida in tackles with 13. Reeves, recorded 6 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 TFL vs. Belen Jesuit Preparatory, and follow up with 6 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 Sack, 1 FF vs. Nova High School (kickoff Classic).
The only person who has a chance of keeping the emerging star out of opposing teams backfield this fall, is category five hurricane Irma. Reeves is certainly catching the attention of voters, with video game like statistics thus far. Here's a note, he sports a 3.42 unweighted/3.6 weighted GPA. Now, that's someone certainly worth recruiting college football recruiting coordinators. Reeves is projected to grow as tall as 6-foot-4 base on his growth plates (per his doctor). "Reeves is your idea recruit", said head coach Daniel Luque. He possesses size, film, grades, and character. The four major qualities when it comes to recruiting.
