Miami Palmetto CB Cornelius Collier, Jr. (6'1", 180) named Rising Stars Freshman of the Wee

By Jerry Williamson

A long Week 7 of high school football is finally over. It's time to reflect on all that happened over the past four days and give our choices for our Rising Stars player of the week. Rising Stars Player of the Week - Cornelius Collier, Jr. (Miami Palmetto)

The freshman of the week, was a no-brainer. As freshman cornerback Cornelius Collier, Jr. (6'1", 180lbs.) of Miami Palmetto HS, locked down a power five conference commit, and defeated the unbeaten South Dade Buccaneers at home. Collier, Jr. was targeted a total of 5 times (allowed one catch) and picked off two passes. The rising freshman, covered the opposing team No. 1 wide receiver, who's currently committed to the Southeastern Conference (SEC). Offensive Player of the Week - Kelly Loiseau (North Miami HS)

North Miami HS running back Kelly Loiseau (5'10", 180) continues to quietly get the job done this season. Loiseau was responsible for 157 all-purpose yards (132 rushing/25 receiving) and 1 touchdown on 20 touches vs. North Miami Beach HS. Defensive Player of the Week - Timothy Burns, Jr. (Doral Academy Charter)

Doral Academy Charter (Fla.) freshman cornerback Timothy Burns, Jr. (5'10", 170) continues to shine. This past week against the Class 3A state runner up, Chaminda-Mondonna, Burns, Jr., recorded 12 solo tackles and delivered 1 force fumble. He's certainly, going to be in consideration as a strong candidate for first team all-county. What makes the victory against South Dade HS, even more impressive for Miami Palmetto HS, is the opposite cornerback of Cornelius Collier, Jr. was also a freshman.

Freshman cornerback Jason Marshall (6'1", 175), who possesses football bowl subdivision (FBS) size, held down his side of the field in both man and zone coverage. The No. 1 ranked 8A program fail to the hands of two freshmen cornerbacks. Miami Palmetto HS (varsity) secondary coach Ray Baker deserves recognition. He is doing an amazing job, converting athletes such as Cornelius Nunn, Jr., Eddie Williams, Jason Marshall, Cornelius Collier, Jr., and Cuevas Russ into fundamentally sound cornerback and safeties. And not to mention, defeating notable opponents along the way.

Offensive lineman Marcus Tate (6'5", 275) of University School of Nova, is building an impressive resume. Tate helped the sharks defeat, the Class 2A state runner up Champagnat Catholic. The freshman who holds an early offer by Bowling Green, was responsible for 2 pancake blocks as well.
