Class of 2022: Southwest Miami-Dade County's Top 50 List

By Jerry Williamson

The Class-of-2022 has a bundle of gifted prospects that has the potential to make varsity impacts (depending on their high school decision) right out the gate. My Top two prospects the past season for the Class-of-2021 was QB Torey "Scooter" Morrison (South Dade) followed by ATH Cornelius Collier, Jr., (Miami Palmetto) I'll proudly say, I nailed it on the head. Both freshmen shined on varsity, and will make the all-county team.

The Class-of-2022 has more depth of talent compared to last fall recruiting class in my opinion. The No. 1 spot was debatable, as Javon Only, Michael Jackson, Ken Moore, Jr., and Dante Anderson all dominated since their spring and jamboree up until now.

Palm Glades inside linebacker Javon Only having played against 3A competition and older and physically mature opponents such as Monsignor Pace, who just was eliminated second round playoffs to University School, gave the tackling machine the edge. Only recorded 8 tackles this past spring as a seventh-grader and earned first team independent all-conference. He's someone I named my Rising Star before the start of fall, and leading his team in tackles capped off a fantastic eighth-grade season on varsity, where he helped his second year football team go 7-3 the season.

1. Javon Only, LB | Palm Glades Prep - (High School) | 5'9", 165

The No. 1 overall player for Southwest Miami-Dade County is none other than Palm Glades Prep Class-of-2022 prospect, middle linebacker Javon Only. The 5-foot-9, 160 pound tackling machine, led his team in tackles and was selected first team all-conference. Only, Most notable game was against Monsignor Pace, where he led his team in tackles with 10 tackles (3 TFL).

2. Michael Jackson, ATH | Richmond -Perrine Giants (Varsity) | 5'8", 145

Richmond-Perrine Giants varsity team featured perhaps the most well-rounded athlete in South Florida with Michael Jackson. We're talking about a young man with varsity potential come next fall. Jackson excels at cornerback, wide receiver, and safety. As long as he pushes himself inside the weight room and continues to develop, he'll be a highly recruited prospect.

3. Dante Anderson, DE | Suniland Sundevils - MXYFL (13U) | 6'2", 190

Defensive end Dante Anderson (6'2", 190) of Suniland Sundevils has the combination of size and athleticism -- that college football coaches offer before playing a single down of varsity football. Anderson is another rising star who has found his home at defensive end after converting from defensive back the past season for South Kendall Seahawks (13U). Here's another varsity caliber athlete.

4. Ken Moore, Jr., RB/LB | Goulds Rams - Pop Warner (Jr. Varsity) | 5'9", 150

Ken Moore, Jr. has the writing on the fall of becoming the next highly sought after recruit in South Florida. He plays inside linebacker and literally, averages 15 tackles per game. His speed and football IQ allows him to track plays down before it starts. He's the fastest football player in gear for the fall. Someone is going to add a future star on their varsity roster come next fall or spring.

5. Bobby Bussey-Golden, WR/ATH | Suniland Sundevils (13U) | 5'8", 145

Suniland Sundevils' WR Bobby Bussey-Golden is the most battled test prospect among the Top 5 list. Bussey-Golden earned Generation Nexxt fastest 8th grader and dominated every camp or combine this past off-season as the top wide receiver for his class. I remember we grouped him up against freshman cornerback Timothy Burns, Jr. of Doral Academy Charter (2-year varsity starter) because nobody in his class could cover him.

6. Mark Evans, WR/ATH |Goulds Rams (Jr. Varsity) | 5'9", 145

Evans is two-way star who's familiar with winning. As a seventh-grader, Evans captured the Pop Warner Div. 2 National title. His touchdown catch against Richmond-Perrine Giants will go down Top 10 of all-time in my book. He's just as talented or better on defense, which explains the type of athlete we're talking about. 7. Tyrone Maxwell, RB/LB | Richmond-Perrine (Jr. Varsity) | 5'7", 140

The former Florida Youth Football League star, made his presence this fall for the Giants at both running back and linebacker. He's an all-star talent on offense or defense. If he's not named the top offensive player of the game, he'll most likely be in the running for the defensive MVP of the game. 8. Jalen "Speedy" Rogers, CB/ATH | Suniland Sundevils (13U) | 5'4", 130

Speedy has openly made it known, he'll suit up for Miami Northwestern next fall. Speedy has the longest track record of All-Star appearances among the entire list. He's a great player. During the playoffs, without Travious Lathan and Bobby Bussey-Golden. Speedy accounted for over 200 all purpose yards, 3 touchdowns and 1 interception (returned 36 yards). 9. Julian Armella, OT | Suniland Sundevils (13U) | 6'2", 250

In only his second season playing organized football, Armella football game has sky rocketed along with his eye-catching size, standing at 6-foot-3, 260 pounds. His job is to simply protect Carson Haggard blind side, which he does exceptionally well. Armella dominated FSU football camp and plays against opponents without a heart. 10. Carson Haggard, QB | Suniland Sundevils (13U) | 5'4", 130

The defending MXYFL champion -- has arguably the highest football IQ in South Florida. Haggard has delivered the same numbers this fall without his top two wide receivers, who are certainly Top 15 caliber at their position in South Florida. Haggard will make a great high school quarterback. Haggard is a student of the game and his arm and decision making within the intermediate range is amazing. Haggard ended his youth career as a champion (3-peat), tossing 5 touchdowns against KBG Kolts for the 13U championship. 11. Brandon Brana, OL | KBG (13U)

12. Dedrick Browder, Richmond-Perrine Giants LB/FB | (Jr. Varsity)

13. Sebastian Borges, LB/TE | Suniland Sundevils (13U)

14. Cornelius Wright, LB | Goulds Rams (Jr. Varsity)

15. Travious Lathan, WR | Suniland Sundevils (13U)

16. Phillip Jean-Philippe, RB/LB | Richmond-Perrine Giants (Jr. Varsity)

17. Marquis Charlemagne, CB | Richmond-Perrine Giants 18. AJ Arenllo, QB | Kendall Hammocks Warriors (12U) 19. Derron Davis, ATH | Tamiami Colts (Jr. Varsity) 20. Denim Edwards, ATH, | Gulliver Prep (Middle School) 21. Luis Consuegra, DE/LB | KBG Kolts (13U) 22. Anton Clayton, QB | Goulds Rams (Jr. Varsity)

23. Jamari Mackey, CB | Richmond-Perrine Giants (Jr. Varsity) 24. David Jester, WR/ATH | Florida City Razorbacks (Jr. Varsity) 25-T. Jeffrey Green, RB | Florida City Razorbacks (Jr. Varsity)

30. Isaiah McKnight, RB/LB | Richmond-Perrine (Jr. Varsity)
