Feather River College Cornerback Sheldon Whigham (Qualifier) Flying Under the Radar

QUINCY — Class-of-2018 mid-year qualifier cornerback Sheldon Whigham II (#14 pictured), originally from Miami, FL (Hialeah Miami-Lakes Senior HS) has enhanced his college football recruiting process since high school, after traveling 3,128 miles to Feather River College. The converted prep running back has transition to cornerback and has seen his recruiting process take a turn on the positive side. As a senior, Whigham II notable offers were from NAIA Hastings and Concordia University. Two years later, Whigham II performances against notable air raid offenses in California such as Shasta College, Diablo Valley College, and Sierra College (which produces division 1 recruits annually) has gradually seen his recruiting stock rise, as college football coaches are taking notice, and personally contacting the under the radar prospect. After only receiving NAIA interest as a senior at Hialeah Miami-Lakes Senior HS, the unheralded prospect has received interest by D1-FCS Campbell University and Div. 2 William Jewels University.

This past fall, Whigham II registered 27 tackles (16 solo stops), 7 pass break ups, 2 force fumbles, and earned Feather River "Big Shrimp" hat (pictured above) which is equivalent to University of Miami (FL) turnover chain. Whigham allowed one touchdown the entire season. He was targeted 19 times on the year and didn't allow over 50 yards receiving in a single game.  The criminal justice major, holds a 3.0 weighted GPA and shines athletically as well. Whigham II clocks a 4.49 (40-yard dash) and is strong as an Ox. He's a member of their 1,000 pound club, totally 1,050 pounds which consists of 280 (bench), 365 (squat), and 405 (dead lift). Earlier this fall, Whigham II mental toughness was challenged beyond the field. He found out that his younger brother Terrell Thomas was murdered back home in Miami, FL. The average student-athlete (or person) being thousands of miles away and including an immediate death from a family member, wouldn't have been able to balance life, football, and schooling. But, Whigham II positive attitude and strong leadership morals, helped him get over the mental hurdle and finish his sophomore season without skipping a beat on-and-off the field.  "Everything i do will be for him. I intend to be great for the both of us." said Whigham II. I feel, as if I'm being overlooked due to my height. But, a ruler can't measure heart and the will to be great." I root everytime for freshman cornerback Trajan Bandy from University of Miami (FL), he's from my hometown and I remember schools doubting him due to his height. I just hope someone take a chance on me regardless if it's FBS, FCS, D2 or etc" Out of high school, Whigham II was a (Qualifier) with a 22 on his ACT. Come Dec. 15 of 2017, Whigham II will obtain his Associate of Arts degree in criminal justice with a 3.0 weighted GPA. Whigham II locked and loaded this upcoming spring to add depth in talent and leadership to someone's secondary depth chart.  Hudl Link | http://www.hudl.com/video/3/5212692/5a086cd84df52f115895a7fd Twitter Handler | @sheldonwhigham
