Under-the-Radar Talent: Hallandale' Amari Johnson boasts world-class speed
By Jerry Williamson Broward County has a rising talent that's located in the City of Hallandale named Amari Johnson who's a college qualifier, speedster and holds approximately four scholsrship offers from the likes of NC State, Toledo, NIU, and Virginia Union. Johnson, the younger cousin of University of Georgia standouts Champ & Boss Bailey, stands just 5-foot-8, 165-pounds. But, his small stature is made up with exceptional speed.
Did you know? Johnson is ranked as the second best Track and Field 300 meter sprinter in the country, that posted a blazing time of a 37.67.
Furthermore, Johnson continues to out run the competition entering his senior year with five consecutive first place finishes in the (300) meters this spring. The state champion and first-team all-county selection can also go the distance on the gridiron. The multi-sport star and student-athlete sports a 3.4 GPA and 940 SAT has delivered a passing score on special teams as well. Johnson has found the end zone a total of four times in his career as a return specialist. This past season as his team utility athlete, Johnson accounted for 1,516 all-purpose yards from scrimmage that consisted of 337 rushing yards, 556 receiving yards, 623 return yards, and seven touchdowns.
As the starting running back/slot receiver for Florida Fire this young man has been literally on fire. Johnson scored ten touchdowns in just three tournaments (securing Nevada and Tennessee titles) which is expressive considering he's surrounded by four and five-star recruits. Johnson versatility, will attract college football programs having the ability to play running back, slot, and field kicks. Florida Fire coaching staff raved about his ability after the catch and his ability to catch in traffic. Johnson is described as a smart, fast, dynamic, and versatile prospect by his peers and coaches.
