Coral Gables (FL) Senior LB Basilio Fernandez is Flying Under-the-Radar

The City of Coral Gables has a long-and-rich history when it comes to producing linebackers, and rising senior Basilio Fernandez, a college quailifer, who stands 6-foot-1, 190 pounds along with a 3.0 GPA, has quiently produced over the past two seasons. The cavaliers' team captain has a knack for finding both the ball carrier. As a sophomore, Fernandez led all linebackers apart of the class-of-2019 in South Florida in tackles with approximately, 110 tackles and caused four force fumbles which ranked top 5 in South Florida. This past season, Fernandez averaged 9 tackles-per-game and capped off his junior season finishing top 10 at the 8A classification in quarterback sacks. The rising senior has finished with the most solo tackles and quarterback sacks the past two seasons amongst all linebackers at the highest classifications (7A & 8A) in Miami-Dade County. The rising senior has recorded 192 tackles, 10.5 quarterback sacks, 4 force fumbles, 2 interceptions, and 1 defensive touchdown within a total of (18) games.

Fernandez, entering his senior year put on an absolute show at his spring football game against Miami Southridge recording 15 tackles and 3.5 tackles for a loss, having a major impact on the game. He has a great instinct for where the play is going to occur, and has a quick jump on the ball and someone who can makes plays all over the field. The schools currently showing interest consist of Bucknell, Valdosta St, Assumption, Princeton, Penn, Holy Cross, Mississippi College, Lindenwood, Kentucky Christian, Southeastern University, and Shorter University, Richmond, Tusculum, Lenoir-Rhyne University.
