South Florida's Freshman of the Week: Brandon Inniss, Francois Nolton Jr. dominate Week 2 oppone
By Jerry Williamson It's time once again to find out who are the Miami Metropolitan areas high school freshman of the week. Each week throughout the season, the top freshman and 8th graders will be recognized for their performances during varsity games of the previous week. The deadline to submit film and stats to be nominated is Tuesday night.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK • The offensive Freshman of the Week is not technically apart of the class-of-2022. Athlete Brandon Inniss of University School claims the offensive player of the week as an eighth grader. Yes, that's correct -- an eighth grader.
Inniss helped his team to a 42-12 win over Immokalee as he contributed in all three phases of the game. Offensively, he caught 2 passes for 26 yards and returned two kick returns for 104 total yards and returned an interception for ten yards. Inniss finished the game with 140 all-purpose yards and recorded an interception for the second consecutive game.
Inniss with four years of high school eligibility remaining, has touched the ball five times for approximately 232 all-purpose yards, 1 receiving touchdown and a force fumble this fall.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK • Miami Christian second-year football program earns the spotlight week 2, as their freshman defensive lineman Francios Nolton Jr. (6-4, 226) is named the defensive Freshman of the Week.
The victors 30-7 win over Ransom Everglades, saw a rising Nolton Jr. rack up 7 tackles, 3 solo, 4 TFL, 2 sacks, and 3 QB hurries while alternating at defensive end and defensive tackle.
The victors are currently 2-0 on the season at the 2A classification and second in their region behind defending state champions Champagnat Catholic.
8TH GRADE PLAYER OF THE WEEK • Athlete David Jester (6'1", 165) of Everglades Prep (Homestead, FLA.) is another exciting 8th grade varsity starter with All-American potential. Jester recorded 5 tackles, 1 TFL and 4 receptions for 51 yards and 1 touchdown; one carry for 7 yards vs. Gulliver Prep, • Miami Palmetto DB Michael Jackson (5-8, 145) caused a force fumble, 1 tackle and 75 return yards. • WR/DB Maurice Smith (6'0, 170) Somerset Silver Palms vs. Palmer Trinity caught six passes for 68 yards. Smith recorded a 30-yard touchdown catch vs. defending state champions Champagnat Catholic week 1. • DB Dedrick Browder of Someset Silver Palms makes the freshman of the Week twice. Browder was responsible for 6 tackles, 1 force fumble, and 1 fumble recovery vs. Palmer Trinity. • St. Thomas Aquinas freshman offensive lineman Julian Armella (6'5", 275) based on film recorded one pancake and didn't allow a sack vs. Piper High School. • LaSalle freshman running back Jude Servius rushed for 46 yards and 1 touchdown vs. Calvary Christian Academy
