Goulds Rams cruised past Northwest Ducks, 30-0, at home improving their regular season record to (3-
By Jerry Williamson
The Goulds Rams jr. pee wee football team has a relentless ground attack led by a triumvirate of home-run hitters at running back composed of Darriel "Big Man" Harper, Marquis Robinson, and Cameron Sapp who combined for over 200 all-purpose yards and three scores. The defense added their third shut out of the season and didn't allow a first down the entire game. On the ground the offense produced over 200 yards and three scores that ranged from a distance of approximately 12, 37, and 54-yards out and one score through the air during the fourth quarter. Northwest Ducks offense learned first-hand about the Rams' stingy run defense led by defensive end Matthew Brand who led his team in tackles, sacks, and force fumbles. Running back Cameron Sapp, the son of former Colorado State RB Cecil Sapp who rushed for 1,601 yards and 17 rushing touchdowns as a senior in 2002, delivered the Rams first touchdown of the game sprinting 12-yards between the tackles as lead blockers Marquis Robinson and Darriel "Big Man" Harper paved the way after a turnover chain type of play by defensive end Matthew Brand. Rams cornerback Wynton Jones quickly caught my attention as he locked down his side of the field, allowing no catches and also was excellent in run support. During the second quarter, RB Marquis Robinson would extend the lead 12-0, as he would bend the sideline and turn on another gear, leaving defenders in the dust for a 37-yard score. Northwest Ducks offense learned first-hand about the Rams' stingy run defense, as the falcons offensive coordinator abandoned the running game and went to the spread offense. However, the falcons offensive coordinator quickly noticed, the Rams secondary was just as good as their front seven after several unsuccessful attempts throwing upfield. During the second half, all-around athlete Darriel "Big Man" Harper would fumble a hand off, in calmly regain control and race 57-yards for another score, as he effortlessly made several defenders miss in open space erupting the crowd. The Rams defensive front made countless gang tackles behind the opposing team line of scrimmage as Kavon Latimore, Wilson Smith, Ronald Towns, Elijah Tillman, Richard Walters Jr., Jamarcus Vega and Corey Pruitt, and Haman Andrews IV caused havoc. The Rams defense is extremely fast, talented, and has depth. Back on offense, QB Jasen Lopez demonstrated his dual-threat ability, as he threw a 15-yard fade to wide receiver Jahmir Mccall, adding the Rams fifth and final score. Lopez also contributed two consecutive first downs using his feet. While notable names such as Darriel "Big Man" Harper and others, are the first in mind when thinking about the supreme team -- defensive end Matthew Brand and cornerback Wynton Jones are the next stars in-line when it's all said and done in my opinion. I noted Brand for racking up 5 tackles, 3 sacks, force fumble, fumble recovery, and several tackles for loss. Jones is a balance cornerback who can play both the run and pass exceptionally well. He didn't allow a pass nor miss a tackle. The unsung most valuable players that opened countless running lanes were none other than offensive lineman Renord Preston, Keyon Smith, Robert Conde, Dion Johnson, Christopher Mckissick and tight ends Samuel Coleman and Cordae Gamble. It's safe to say, the Rams despite with only three games under their belt, has punched in their ticket for the Sean Taylor Classic. Their coaching staff has over 35-years of coaching experience and previous stops at the Sean Taylor Classic and the Pop Warner Div. 1 Nationals. Head coach/defensive coordinator Telley Rolle understands what it takes to win, as he experienced nationals the previous season as the Goulds Rams Jr. Varsity defensive coordinator. Can Telley Rolle make back-to-back appearances at Nationals with the supreme team as well? Only time will tell, but you can guarantee they'll be in the Sean Taylor Classic. NORTHWEST DUCKS
Despite a tough loss on the road the falcons standouts were Tyquan Hankerson, Dwight Carter, and Odell Jolly III who continued to give it their all.
