Miami Central (FL) 3-star QB Maurice Underwood putting up astronomical numbers
By Jerry Williamson Miami Central (FLA.) senior quarterback Maurice Underwood, a Marshall verbal commit since August 22, 2017, is argubably the breakout player of the year in the sunshine state or perhaps the country. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound gunslinger is on track to end his high school career just like he started it, which was a freshman at Champagnat Catholic, where he finished top 5 in every positive passing category. Underwood is averaging roughly four touchdowns per game this season without throwing a single interception. Through 5-games this season the 3-star recruit has went (4-1) consisting of a brutal schedule. Underwood only loss on the season wasn't a result of his play, as he continuously engineered drives against St. John's Cadets from Washington, D.C. just falling short after five overtimes. The nation's No. 67 pocket passer via 247sports is argubably the front runner for player of the year in South Florida when you factor strength of schedule and performances. In the air, Underwood has went 69-for-110 for 1,172 yards and 12 TDs along with six additional scores on the ground against in-state powers St. Thomas Aquinas, Cardinal Gibbons, and Miami Booker T. Washington. As far as recruiting goes. Underwood is just enjoying his team success and is hoping his play leads to a four-star rating and a more reasonable ranking. It's hard to imagine that there's 66 other quarterbacks playing at a higher level than the rockets signal caller, especially when factor in strength of schedule.

Underwood is certainly spreading the wealth this season to perhaps the best, but yet unknown senior wide receivers in perhaps the southeast region. The trio Jaylin Young (6-0, 162), Anthony Frederick (5-10, 170), and Anthony Colonial (5-9, 170) has outperformed notable secondaries that hold multiple three-and-four star recruits thus far this season. The rockets offense is assembled with hungry, but yet, talented prospects that's working hard to make a name for themselves.
Underwood is still somewhat underrated himself despite his 3-star rating with scholarships from the likes of FAU, FAMU, Howard, and Valdosta State according to 247sports.
