Jackson, Anderson, and Carswell named Freshman of the Week
By Jerry Williamson
This past weekend offensive and defensive players of the week were players from Miami Southridge, Miami Palmetto, and Evsrglades High School located in Miramar, FLA.
OFFENSIVE FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK Everglades High School | Kareem Carswell | RB | 5-5 148
Running back Kareem Carswell of Everglades High School continues to perform on the big stage despite his small frame. Carswell, a 5-foot-5, 148-pounder, rushed for 97 yards and two rushing touchdowns on eight attempts vs. South Plantation. CO-DEFENSIVE FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK Miami Palmetto | Michael Jackson | ATH | 5-8, 160
Miami Palmetto versatile and all-around playmaker Michael Jackson (#17) is another star in the making just like last season freshman and now, four-star recruits Corey Collier and Jason Marshall, but minus the long frame. Jackson recorded over 115 all-purpose yards, 1 touchdown (93-yard kick return), one dropped interception and multiple tackles. He's the next version of teammate Cornelius Nunn Jr. for Miami Palmetto. Miami Southridge | Dante Anderson | DE | 6-2, 200
When considering the depth chart at Miami Southridge, you have to be special to play as a freshman. Anderson, who's apart of the rotation made crunch time plays during the second half vs. Miami Palmetto. Anderson recorded 4 solo tackles, 2 TFL, 1.5 sacks, 1 QB pressure, and the 1 force fumble that put the game away that resulted in Emmanuel Belgrave defensive touchdown. OFFENSIVE STANDOUTS ATH, Lamar Patterson, Liberty High School (Kissimmee, FLA.) Note: Caught three passes for 77 yards and returned a kick off for 70 yards kick and allowed no catches on defense. Patterson recorded 147 all-purpose yards. OL, Julian Armella, St. Thomas Aquinas Note: Mark my word, Armella will be an early class-of-2022 four-star recruit at the end of his sophomore season when the ratings are released. OL, Brandon Brana, Gulliver Prep Note: When you consider the freshman is experiencing on-job-training against older and physically matured opponents and perhaps No. 1 rusher in South Florida is your running back, you're doing an amazing job. DEFENSIVE STANDOUTS DL, Kymani Williams, Everglades Note: Williams reports an early verbal scholarship from UCF. Last week, he was responsible for 3 solo tackles, 1 fumble recovery, 1 punt block, and 1 defensive touchdown vs. South Plantation. DB, Websley Etienne, Western High School Note: Etienne recorded 3 solo tackles and 2 dropped interceptions SPECIAL TEAMS PK, Will Bettridge, Gulliver Prep Note: He went 3-for-3 on extra points and kicked one touchback vs. Champagnat Catholic. Bettridge is a name you'll see each week folks. Did you know? Bettridge is the No. 1 placekicker in the country per Kornblue Kicking for the class-of-2022.
