Stock Up: Turner, Jones-Bell, Poitier making noise on offense
By Jerry Williamson
When looking for a big play at wide receiver on third down or someone who can take it the distance, what better place to extend a scholarship other than South Florida. It's a talent talent-rich area that ranges from Palm Beach to Homestead, that systemically reloads with new talent annually and the stars ratings and verbal scholarships aren't far behind. Unlike, other states when the early star ratings and rankings are published, that's the cream of the crop come National Signing Day. But, not in South Florida, an unheralded prospect will outshine stars on any given Friday night, and I have four wide receivers that are making it look easy without star ratings and major college football offers this fall. South Miami, Gerand Turner
Note: Despite holding four D1-FBS scholarships from FAU, FIU, Syracuse, and Purdue, he is still for some odd reason an unheralded recruit. Turner, who sports a 3.2 GPA is having perhaps the best season at wide receiver in South Fkorida and maybe the entire state. His best single-game performance this season was against Varela. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound playmaker hauled in four catches for 200 yards receiving and four touchdowns. His stats on the season consist of 793 receiving yards and 10 TDs. Miami Carol City, Thaiu Jones-Bell
Note: Many people are calling Miami Carol City football program the Alabama of high school football this season. If that's the case, wide receiver Thaiu Jones-Bell is the Chiefs Jerry Jeudy-version on offense statistically this season. Besides one game which he still found the end zone, Jones-Bell (5'11", 182) has averaged two touchdowns per game this fall. His stats hold weight, considering his scores were against state champion programs such as (8A) Miami Southridge, (6A) Miami Northwestern, and (5A) American Heritage Plantation. Jones-Bell has an unbelievable 13 receiving touchdowns within seven games this season. Miami Palmetto, Kentron Poitier
Note: Around this time next fall, expect somewhere around 10-15 scholarships from this rising star better known as Megatron. The small forward who averages 19.1 points per game stands an eye-catching 6-foot-4, 200-pounds with 4.6 speed. This past week vs. Homestead he scored three touchdowns. Poitier has 6 touchdowns on the season, which could have easily been 10 scores (4 called back).
