Underappreciated Seniors: Everglades Prep, ATH Jaleen Walker (College Qualifier)
By Jerry Williamson
Everglades Prep proven, but yet overlooked college qualifier a class-of-2019 prospect at cornerback named Jaleen Walker (6'1, 170) is arguably one of the most underrated prospects on defense throughout the southeastern region. Last season, the Panthers versatile athlete who sports a 3.1 core GPA with the option to become an early enrollee upon the school choice, earned first-team all-county on defense and co-lead the county in interceptions with six. This fall, Walker has picked up right back where he started, with three interceptions in counting on the season and no touchdowns allowed. On offense, Walker is averaging over 20-yards per catch with five touchdowns.
When you breakdown Jaleen Walker film and measurables, it points out three things: Sleeper, upside and FBS material. Walker is your prototype cornerback standing at 6-foot-1, 170-pounds with long arms along with sub 4.5 speed. The converted basketball player has quietly made a slam dunk on the gridiron. Last season, Walker made history as the first football player to be named first-team all-county, which was quite impressive considering it was his first season playing organized football.
The little-known talent also holds the school career record in interceptions with (9) in only fourteen high school games.
Walker is still waiting for his first official scholarship. The only school expressing the most interest is West Florida. Walker is already locked and loaded for the next level. As mention above, the team captain sports a 3.1 core GPA and is a college qualifier that has also completed his NCAA Amateurism Certification.
