Stock Up: Robinson, Kitchens, Burton, Hammett making their mark this season (Part 2)
By Jerry Williamson
Each season Rising Stars put together the top freshman in South Florida. This fall, the coverage has extended throughout the state of Florida and for the guys who didn't make the list, I have created the series named Stock up that highlights the top unheralded sophomores that are taking high school by storm. Let's not waste anymore time below are four sophomores that will have stars next to their names all said and done.
American | Donche Robinson (CB)
Note: The 5-foot-9, 155-pounder is certainly playing bigger than his size and performing in notable games this season. Robinson more than likely leads Miami-Dade in interceptions and defensive scores. This fall, Robinson has 6 interceptions and three defensive scores ranging from 50, 70, and 103 yards. His best individual game was against Miami Southridge, where he recorded 3 interceptions. He is a young man I remember that locked it down during the 12-and-under Miami-Dade vs. Broward All-Star Youth Football Game. Miami Northwestern | Kamern Kitchens (DB)
Note: The Florida Fire 15U interception leader production has carried over to fall. Kitchens (5-11, 176) holds an early verbal scholarship from Toledo and Louisville and has made his mark on defense and special teams. The rising talent posted 52 tackles, 15 pass deflections, 5 tackles for loss, and 2 interceptions. On special teams, Kitchens has accounted for a total of 249 all-purpose yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 field goal block. Doral Academy | Roscoe Burton (RB)
Note: Burton is having a phenomenal season for the Firebirds. On the ground the 5-foot-9, 171-pounder has rushed for 1,035 yards and 15 scores along with 125 receiving yards. Burton most notable performances on the ground and yards from scrimmage were against Chaminade-Madonna and Ronald Reagan. Burton rushed for 156 yards on nine carries vs. Chaminade-Madonna and recorded 209 total yards against Ronald Reagan. Hialeah | Ja’corey Hammett (OLB)
Note: The Thoroughbreds (9-1) record has been a direct result from impactful and unknown promising talent such as hybrid outside linebacker and defensive end Ja'corey Hammett. The 6-foot-2, 190-pounder has caused havoc this fall. Hammett is responsible for 67 tackles, 14 sacks, and 8 tackles for loss heading into the playoffs vs. South Dade. His best individual game consisted of 2 forced fumbles and 12 tackles against North Miami Beach.
