Spring Spotlight: Coral Gables (FLA.) 20' LB Dimitris Biamby
By Jerry Williamson
When it comes to recruiting, South Florida is without question the mecca of high school football. It can also be a gift and a curse, when sorting out the best "looking" football players who have the power five type of breakdown that consists of measurables, speed, and strength. Rising senior linebacker Dimitris Biamby, a four-year varsity starter for the Cavaliers who sports a 2.8 unweighted GPA and 800 SAT -- doesn't pass the initial eye-ball test standing at 5-foot-11 and weighing 200 pounds. But, his football resume is loaded against power five recruits and perennial powerhouse programs. In 2018, the team captain and tackling machine of the Cavaliers' outright earned first-team All-Dade County, which speaks volumes competiting on the highest classification level in Florida. Biamby made his presence known against his clashes against class 8A runner-up Christopher Columbus, an offense that featured six division one recruits per 247sports. He was responsible for 21 tackles, 2 force fumbles, 1 sack, 1 interception, and 1 fumble recovery.
The undersized and productive linebacker who holds an D1-FCS verbal offer from Tennessee Martin just comes to play regardless of the opposing team or player accoldes. His next big showing was against Miami Booker T. Washington, a program that doesn't need an introduction. Biamby recorded 13 tackles, 2 sacks, and 2 tackles for a loss. His best solo performances came week 2 versus Miami Edison racking up 16 solo tackles, 1 sack, and 3 tackles behind the line of scrimmage. As a junior, he was responsible for 120 tackles, 11 TFL, 5 sacks, 1 interception, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, and 1 pass break up. Biamby informed me he'll retake the SAT in August and will bulkup adding 10-15 pounds of muscle before the start of his senior season. He's also receiving additional D1-FBS attention from the following schools: Wake Forest, FIU, and App St as well as Valdosta St.
