Top 10 offensive sophomores that caught my attention: Morrison and Brown leads the pack.
By Jerry Williamson
If you're not scouting the area of South Florida, then you're missing out tremendously. The talent pool is endless, and there's always new talent that just seems to surface overnight. On offense, I nailed down the top ten offensive game-changers over the past two weeks this spring that completely stole the show. At the quarterback position, Miami Booker T. Washington three-year varsity starter Torey "Scooter" Morrison left a storm statistically. The Joe Hamilton (former Georgia Tech star) of high school football despite a sloppy performance earlier on with dropped balls, threw for over 350 yards and accounted for 3 touchdowns vs. McArthur. Right across the county line, University School signal-caller Nick Viattaio, has all the tools to become a nationally recognize gunslinger. Despite playing against his teammates, his numbers were very similar from this past season stiff competition. The Sharks' team captain continues to grew vertically, and his college football offers is also expanding at a rapid pace. Viattaio, recently picked up offers this past week from Cincinnati and Kentucky and capped off spring in fashion throwing for 16-for-24, 293 yards, 3 TDs; 3 rushes for 20 yards, 1 TD. Back into Miami-Dade County, running back Yulkeith Brown from Gulliver Prep is quietly, one of the best all-around dynamic players in the nation. His ability to catch, run behind and outside of the tackles along with track and field speed, was too much for Hialeah and Killian defenses. Brown rushed for over 150 yards and several touchdowns, mainly running through the 3 and 4 holes. Cooper City running back Isaiah Nashawn Janvier has talent, and he's a sleeper. The product of the veer offense, literally earns every single yard upfield. Janvier found the end zone twice on the ground and rushed for well over 100 yards on limited action. In 2018, Champagnat Catholic emerging star running back Donovan Jones earned first-team All-County as well as fueling his offense to the class 2A state championship. Jones helped the Lions win convincely, by rushing for 100 yards on eights touches and hauling in 2 catches for 15 yards and 3 scores. As Mark Jackson would say, "Mamma, there goes that man!". The future phenom Amari Daniels has returned, and he's hungry to reclaim statistically, the top running back position of his class. Daniels despite nursing a minor injury, averaged 31-yards per attempt and one receiving touchdown vs. North Miami. At the 2A classification, there's nothing small regarding the scholarships generating at Champagnat Catholic. Shifty and explosive athlete, Malik Rutherford was offered by Nebraska and could possibly extend his offers list soon after his single-game performance vs. Coral Glades. Only needing four touches, Rutherford raced two times into the end zone and recorded 70 yards receiving on the night. My next rising star hails from Doral, FLA. Ronald Reagan High school versatile athlete Amos Labranche has all the tools to become a D-1 prospect. He stands 6-feet, weighs 172-pounds and can play every skill position along with 4.72 electronically timed speed and to just put icing on the cake, he sports a 2.9 weighted GPA. Labranche dominated on both offense and defense; racing for a 67-yard touchdown and following up with a 90-yard passing touchdown and one forced fumble. At offensive line three guys stood out tremendously. Starting the list is Miami Central Jeron "Puda" Scharoun. I could personally run through the holes he create. He moves defenders and gets to the next level. Everglades Prep Javier Ramos has the measurables and film, to catch D-1 attention. He's also gifted inside of the classroom. He's D-1 material college football coaches.
Miami Booker T. Washington increased the size of their offensive line this off-season with class of 2022 Newcomer Jason Jeanty Jr., a Miami Jackson transfer, passes the eye-ball test standing nearly 6-foot-5 and weighing 270-pounds. Jeanty recorded several pancakes and created passing lanes throughout the day for QB Torey "Scooter" Morrison.
