Underclassmen of the week: Jenkins, Haggard, Georges leds the pack in week 1
The stars of tomorrow, continues to shine, as Gulliver Prep Carson Haggard and Daniel Georges from Dade Christian, delivered stellar performances. On the defensive side of the ball, Lamont Green Jr., is making a name for himself, and has the measurables and film, to explode at the end of the season with offers. Lets not waste anymore time, below is the underclassmen of the week.
Gulliver Prep QB Carson Haggard graded out 86% in the air, last week vs. Coral Gables. Haggard went 13-for-15 and threw for 241 yards, and 3 TD’s (1 called back and no interceptions). Haggard was also named offensive Player of the Week per South Florida Conference.
Perennial high school football powers, Miami Carol City and Miami Northwestern, have certainly, found their next super star at quarterback. The Bulls' freshman quarterback, Taron "Tyger" Dickens, continues to light up the scoreboard against stiff competition. Last week, Tyger continued his touchdown streak, passing for over a 130 yards and throwing two touchdowns. This kid, just knows how to win.
Freshman quarterback Kewon Jenkins of Miami Carol City, has the writing on the wall, as the next top tier gunslinger in the state of Florida. Jenkins, for the second consecutive week, amassed over 250 yards in the air, and threw for 2 touchdowns. The emerging star also completed 70% of his passes against Deerfield Beach, who fields a plethora of power five recruits.
Dade Christian soph. QB George Daniels left is mark, week 1. The dual-threat welcome their football program back in style. Daniels recorded 400 total yards and 4 touchdowns, defeating Palm Glades 47-0. That explains everything in nutshell. Freshman running back/linebacker Richard Young, entered high school as the fastest 8th grader in the sunshine state.Young's speed has certainly, transition to the next level. Against Miami Booker T. Washington, he sprinted 88-yards for a touchdown. On offense, he carried the ball seven times for 70-yards and also, recorded 10 solo stops at linebacker. Just ask, for an autograph now, you'll thank me.
Monarch sophomore QB Peter Zamora is going to become the face of Broward County for the class of 2022. He threw approximately four touchdowns and recorded over 400 yards from scrimmage. Zamora numbers earned him Rising Stars offensive Underclassmen of the week.
The leading freshman rusher at running back for week 2 is Miami Christian Jamari Ford. The two-year varsity starter, over 200 all-purpose yards vs. Calvary Christian. Ford caught five passes for 90-yards and also, carried the ball 15 times for 110 yards; 30-yard punt return. Westminster Christian sophomore running back Denim Edwards, is arguably, one of the best kept secrets in Miami-Dade County. Edwards ran wild, busting off several runs of 30-yards or more against Everglades Prep. Edwards complied over 200 all-purpose yards and 3 rushing touchdowns. He has a chance to make first-team All-County.
St. Brendan's freshmen duo, Richard Dandridge and Ryan Bullard, products from Miami Pop Warner football teams Goulds Rams and the Florida City Razorbacks, made their presence known running and catching the ball vs. St. John's Paul II Academy.
In the air, Dandridge, a freshman wide receiver, caught four passes for 115 yards and 1 touchdown. On the ground, Bullard had 13 carries for 160 yards and 3 rushing touchdowns.
University School, two-year varsity starter athlete Brandon Inniss, hasn't skipped a beat. Pahokee High School learned first-hand, Inniss is everything as advertised. On offense, he pulled in four receptions for 112 yards and 2 receiving scores. On defense, Innis displayed his weight room strength, by causing a forced fumble and 4 solo tackles. Inniss, averaged 28-yards per touch on offense vs. the Blue Devils. Miami Jackson all-purpose sophomore running back Tywan Mike, is ready to make a name for himself this season. Last week, he total nearly 250 yards. Listen to these numbers, Mike ran for 150 yards (1-rushing touchdown) and return a kick 75 yards and follow up with a reception for 25 yards. Miami Christian, looks to rebound, after having three touchdowns called back vs. Calvary Christian on the road. Freshman wide receiver, Nathaniel "Ray Ray" Joseph, despite the painful lost, left a lasting impression in Fort Lauderdale, FL. His efforts didn't go unnoticed. Ray Ray sparked the Victors offense, racking up 150 yards receiving on 8 catches and returning one kick return for 50 yards.
Gulliver Prep offensive center Brandon Brana, displayed a "lights out" performance this past week, challenging cross-town opponent Coral Gables. After switching to center his sophomore season, Brana based on production, still grades out as a champion. As the anchor, of the Blue Raiders trenches. He delivered an eye-catching five plus pancake blocks. McArthur freshman offensive lineman, Deandre Duffus (6'4 270lbs) as you can see, passes the eye-ball test, and if you're able produce 3 pancakes vs. back-to-back state champions, Chaminade-Madonna, recognition is quickly generated. Miami Southridge starting freshman center Markwon Strong, looks to continue to family tradition -- following brothers Marvin & Marcus Strong, who both signed athletic scholarships this past season. His performance, versus a college football roster in waiting (St. John's) was extremely impressive for someone right out of middle school.
American Heritage Plantation, is refueling their program with youthful talent. One of Patriots, incoming stars is none other than freshman linebacker David Vadala (5-10, 205). It's hard enough, to play for a perennial football program as a freshman, but recording 11-tackles vs. Monsignor Pace, says a mouth full. This kid, has a bright future. Circle him on your recruiting boards, college football coaches.
As of today, Southwest Miami defensive end Lamont Green Jr., a 6-foot-4, 200-pounder, is the face of South Florida at his position on varsity. For two consecutive weeks, he has collected quarterback sacks and multiple tackles. This past week, edge rusher was responsible for 5 tackles, 2 quarterback hurries, 1 pass deflection, and 1 quarterback sack.
South Miami freshman linebacker Rodolfo Hernandez, can add his name to the promising list, at the linebacker position. Hernandez plays big, at 5-foot-9 and weighing a 160-pounds, he recorded 12 tackles vs. North Miami. At defensive tackle Dairo Melendez from Immaculata-LaSalle High School, amassed 6 tackles and 2 sack vs. Coral Shores.
Melendez's teammate, Jude Servius, an all-around athlete, also made an impact, by rushing for 108 yards and 1 touchdown (on just 7 carries).
